If you don’t turn right to Mariam Church when you meet the old road, but cross over if can carry on, you will travel towards the highest point at over 3,350m. (11,000ft), where the track appears to, and actually does, plunge over the escarpment towards the Gorfu Mountains. There is in fact a right turn which leads up and on to the tops. Here the breeze is crisp and cool, and the smell thyme and heath fills the air. On the far escarpment on the north side, troops of Anubis baboons and a few duiker and leopard inhabit the wooded slopes. Birds of prey are numerous. The Bataleur, Tawny Eagle, Lammergeier, Augur Buzzard, the beautiful silver-grey Pallid Harrier and numerous small falcons and kestrels provide spectacular viewing. Despite a few steep and rought stretches the distance can be covered in an ordinary vehicle. From the top to the north on a clear day the Fiche Mountains over 100 km. away can be seen; to the east the shimmering manmade lake of Legedadi. MountYerer stands silhouetted against the horizon; slightly to the right the conical shape of Zuquala, often a bit misty, and to the west lie Mt.Furi and Wuchacha Mountain.
