The track emerges from the eucalyptus trees to a splendid view to the north, and then descends to cross a wide green field, frequently used for the sport of gugs (a warlike game played on horseback) till it joins the “old road” over Entoto. Turning right, you arrive almost immediately at the delightful Mariam Church, built for Empress Taitu and site of the coronation of Menilik (1889). Decorated outside with wooden framework, the church is set in a grassy compounded and surrounded by cedar trees. The interior, like Raguel, is covered with murals depicting the saints, events from the gaspels, etc. the ceiling is gay with angels and heavenly scenes the asphalt road from Mariam leads down the mountain again to the city; access is of course also possible by this route, which is called Entoto Avenue (from Arat Kilo, through Siddist Kilo and on past the American Embassy).
