The Birthplace Of Ethiopia Axum.

Aksum, Ethiopia

During the first seven centuries AD, there arose at Aksum in the highlands of northern Ethiopia a unique African culture. Ancient Aksum maintained wide-ranging international trade and produced unparalleled coinage in gold, silver and copper. Its kings adopted Christianity in the fourth century AD and the Christian civilization of the Ethiopian highlands traces its origin to Aksumite roots. Granite-built and splendid beyond the possibilities of provincial towns, Aksum has left many traces of grandeur: temples, palaces, monasteries, royal tombs, obelisks and stelae - more than 300 are still visible today.
