Roha Hotel was initially established at the time of Emperor Haile Sellasie in 1976. However, the hotel started giving service in 1992. Up until December 25, 2009, it was governed by the Government owned Ghion Hotels Enterprise. On December 26, 2009, the operational responsibility of Roha Hotel was transferred to Ayat Share Company.
Ayat aims to ensure that tourism contributes to the conservation of biological resources, the preservation of historical and cultural resources, and the well being of the peoples of Lalibela town and its surrounding. Ayat will upgrade the current Three star Roha hotel to a Four star hotel that depends most importantly on conserved evidence of natural resources and preserved evidences of historical and cultural assets.
